Arrghhh! The little old pirate seemed to have misplaced his treasure somewhere in your backyard. Can you help him hunt for his lost jewels and gold before he gives up forever? Of course you can! And we’ve made it easy on you with our DIY tutorial of the best scavenger hunt for pirate treasure. Ever. Here’s our super simple how-to…
I just created a few clues that led us around our yard and ultimately to our hidden treasure – which of course, was under an X. Everything in the treasure chest was from the dollar store (I love a frugal find!) and it cost me a total of $4. Here’s what you’ll need:
- Jewels or beaded necklaces (be careful that your child is supervised and will not get strangled in long jewelry or swallow small pieces)
- Coins (we used checkers as a replacement prop)
- Plain Dry Oatmeal
- A Gift Box
I covered my gift box with yellow construction paper and added details (such as a belt and lock) with a contrasting color. Hot gluing the paper down around the box edges was enough to secure this for us.
Then, I filled my box with oatmeal to make a taste-safe “sand” and added the jewels/coins. Pop on the lid and hide it alongside your X. It’s as easy as that!
